Working with rural places on quality of life issues, the LOR Foundation supports community-driven solutions to real world problems, from water and forest conservation to small town revitalization. From setting the digital and social strategy to running ads and assisting with messaging, I was able to help spread awareness of the LOR Foundation while they invited community members to tell them about their unique livability needs. This listen-first process, along with hiring staff from the communities they serve, continues to make the LOR Foundation a powerful agent of positive change in rural communities.

“Stopping the scroll” — getting consumers to spend even a second looking at your social media ads — can be incredibly challenging in today’s digital ecosystem. So we created one-of-a-kind illustrations showcasing local locations in order to capture attention and gain community feedback. As a listen-first, community-solution-driven organization, this series of ads drove record numbers of community input while amassing a 700% higher than average engagement rate.
From community festivals to unique digital activations, the LOR Foundation regularly highlights the important events happening in the communities they serve across the Intermountain West. We crafted stand-out ads, placing and optimizing them across social platforms, local radio and newspapers, and podcasts, leading to the rapid growth of fans, participation and brand awareness among core audiences.
Authentic content is critical to any brand’s success, and that’s especially true when working with small, tight-knit communities. We created photo ambassador and UGC programs, working with local artists and budding photographers to showcase their communities while getting compensated for their participation, keeping marketing dollars and encouraging artistic growth within the communities served. These programs continue to this day and enable the LOR Foundation to regularly feature community-captured photos and videos across their digital and social channels.
This work was done through Mekanic, a brand transformation agency in the greater Washington, DC area, and the project included working closely with an amazing team at the LOR Foundation.
